I’m SO excited to finally be able to share this ‘love letter’ from the heart, as a guest post for Paige Brunton’s blog.

Shit’s gettin’ real!! I’m sharing everything from the details of my first ‘big’ failure to the success I’ve created in my first year working full-time in my business.

(Notice I said “first,” although nothing like that has happened since –because, lesson learned– I know I’m not perfect and so I’m also not immune to failure in general. And that’s okay!)

before we dive in, some real talk...

Please hear me when I say there is a difference between taking calculated risks & making potentially dumb decisions just because you’re impatient. 😂 #justsayin

I was not impatient. I was the picture of patience, to a fault it seems.

I mulled over, debated, and fought with myself over making the decision to leave my 9-5 for YEARS.

It wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment decision and in that time span, while I avoided making the decision I ultimately knew was right for me, I learned life lessons about what I needed to be successful when I did finally make the decision to take that first terrifying leap.

But I know that what worked for me may not work for everyone, –and that’s my point. My journey hasn’t looked like “everyone else’s” and IT’S OKAY if yours looks different too.

We all have bills that need to be paid, so make sure you evaluate your specific circumstances before you just up & quit your job. M’kay?

Calculated risks are not successful by luck. You WILL need to put in the work. Your business will not become successful overnight simply because you have more time in the day; you have to use that newly-found extra time wisely. 😉

    That said…

…if you’re willing to take a leap of faith, choose fulfillment over security long enough to start a new season of your life, and put in the work –not hustle, then you can absolutely transform your life.

Okay, now that’s out of the way, here’s what I’m talking about specifically:

    • Dealing with my own risk-aversion: I only left my 9-5 because I got furloughed during the pandemic.

    • Realizing that playing small was keeping me stuck: I was playing NOT to lose, instead of playing to win –and there’s a BIG difference.

    • Figuring out that I was focused on the wrong things: I stopped thinking about what I’d have to give up or what might go wrong…

    • Growing into the person I needed to become, to be successful: I stopped thinking like an employee or a hobbyist and started thinking like a business owner.

    • Adjusting my mindset: how would I act if I was already the person who was successful?

    • Getting started by changing these two small words…

    • Learning that nothing will ever be truly perfect and that there’s no one right way to do anything.

    • Waiting until I felt “ready” wasn’t going to help me actually be successful.

    • Stepping WAY outside my comfort zone actually helped.

    • Failing at something utterly could’ve validated ALL my fears…

    • Handling my failure taught me a HUGE lesson!

    • Finding my niche helped me find my confidence and replace my 9-5’s income and book out months in advance!

If I can do this with a 15GB maximum monthly data cap on our internet usage back when I first got started, a college education in art (not business) and no clue how to start or run a business, limited time outside of work, and maybe a hundred other things going “against” me, –then you can too.

    How do I know?
