First of all, –from the moment I read her application to work with me I knew she’d be an absolute joy to work with, so I was really excited about the chance to work with her on this project!

I was SO excited, in fact, that I opened my waitlist a little sooner than I’d expected. 😂

The strong & happy energy, and the genuine desire to create a space JUST for women of color who really needed more support than they are currently getting on this issue ––it just oozed out of every word in her communication leading up to the Discovery Call when I finally got to sit down and chat with Kim in detail about her project and her business.

I say all that to say that it was obvious she was serious about getting this out into the world, and that she wanted to help so many more people than she was able to help as “just” a divorce attorney.

I could relate to her passion and her desire to help more people, and KNEW this had to be in the world.

Kim has a killer backstory of –quite literally– climbing her way to the top of the divorce food chain.

Here are just a few of her achievements:

    ✔ HBCU Made (Spelman College)

✔ a licensed attorney in Illinois & Maryland

    ✔ a Certified Divorce & Family Mediator

    ✔ 15+ yrs. Divorce Litigator

    ✔ Law Firm Partner

✔ Fellow, American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers

✔ Member, Jack & Jill of America, Inc.

✔ Member, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

✔ now also a Podcaster, Educator & Entrepreneur

🏆 Named in Best Lawyers In America (Family Law)

🏆 Named in Super Lawyers (Family Law)

She was a top dawg both as a female attorney and a woman of color, at the height of her career and as such, she saw a need that wasn’t being met.

Through her experience over a 15+ year career, she saw that a LOT of women needed more guidance and genuine support when going through one of the toughest seasons of their lives: divorce.

    About the project

I don’t often get to work on projects that have so many vibrant feminine colors, and I really enjoyed finding fun ways to add more pops of color throughout, while also trying to keep things feeling serious, comforting, elegant, and relatable.

We wanted to make sure it would feel very approachable, easy, and totally free of any references to the types of sunken, heavy, or ashamed feelings one of her past clients might have felt when coming to her for help in the first place.

Out with the super DIY vibes, the bright magentas, and confusion on too many font options, and in with the upbeat kindness and positivity that comes naturally packaged in a wonderfully energetic woman like Kim. 💛

Honestly, this design was so incredibly easy; it just flowed! Aside from some minor changes, it’s basically the same now (at time of publishing) as the initial draft, and I had a blast working with Kim to bring this new business to life for her!
